The album was produced by Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Slipknot), and executive produced by Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Metallica, Slipknot, Slayer, Linkin Park, etc., etc.). 'World Painted Blood' is Slayer's ninth studio album.

Singer Tom Araya says of the new output, "There are two principal music writers in this band, so you are going to get a combination of speed and heaviness. Kerry's (King, guitarist)writing is really aggressive and fast, while Jeff (Hanneman, guitarist) likes things to be fast, but with melodies and grooves. In making this album, we seemed to share the same vision from song ideas to titles; when we get together as Slayer, it just happens, nothing is contrived, it's not thought out, we just do it, and we did that with this new album". Cool.

Slayer is co-headlining this summer's Mayhem Festival with Marilyn Manson. The line-up features a litany of incredible Metal bands: Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, All That Remains, Job For A Cowboy, Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, Killswitch Engage, Cannibal Corpse, and more. I hope you've been doing your neck warming exercises!

In the August 2009 issue of Guitar World magazine, several of the guitar players from the bands were asked what they thought Slayer should name their new album. Here's what they said:

Michael Paget - Bullet For My Valentine - 'Slayer!'
Mike Martin - All That Remains - 'We Hate God Even More Now!'
Bobby Thompson - Job For A Cowboy - Whatever the hell they want to.
Nergal - Behemoth - Whatever they call it, I'm sure I will worship it.
Corey Beaulieu- Trivium - It should be self-titled, since Slayer is the definition of Metal.
Adam Dutkiewicz - Killswitch Engage - 'Angel Of Meth'
Rob Barrett - Cannibal Corpse - Slayer should call their new album whatever the f#@k they want to, because they are masters of their craft.
Zach Householder - Whitechapel - 'To Punish and Enslave', because when Slayer takes over the world, that's exactly what they're going to do to the human race.

Good stuff!

And as Brent Hinds from Mastodon always says, "Noone will ever out-Slayer Slayer". Don't forget it!

The Rockstar Mayhem Festival takes place at Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre on Sunday, July 19, 2009.
